Rev. Willard H. Whitman has been serving with Mr. Kevin Corbett and the Taunton Funeral Home since coming to Taunton in 2001. Mr. Whitman was born and educated in Nova Scotia, Canada. After graduating High School he moved to Ontario where he received his Seminary training and his Ordination into the ministry. Rev. Whitman had pastored churches throughout Ontario for some 36 years before receiving the call to Massachusetts.
While in Ontario, Mr. Whitman received special training in “grief counseling” and served as chairman of his city’s “Hospital Services Spiritual Life and Patient Care Board”, as well as serving as spokesperson for the county’s “Child Abuse Review Team”.
He is presently the pastor of the Assembly of God Church (Liberty Christian Center) on Winthrop Street in Taunton, where he has served for the past 7 years.
Shortly after coming to Taunton, Rev.Whitman began to assist in services at the Taunton Funeral Home. He gradually got more and more involved, until now he is assisting and serving in funerals, grief counseling, and many other areas of the funeral business.
When asked, “Why the funeral business?” his answer is clear: “I love it. It gives me an opportunity to serve the community and to minister to the spiritual needs of family members at a time when they need it most. I also feel that while ministering to their grief, that maybe I can make a difference in someone else’s life; usually someone whom I have never met before.” “I am thankful for the opportunity to serve the Taunton & Area community in this way.” |
